FINAL DRAFT for iPad is Finally Here! …and it’s only a reader?

Hooray (sort of)! Final Draft is finally coming to the iPad (sort of)! Isn’t that great? Sort of. It’s been the topic of heated discussions since we launched over two years ago. Its progress has been covered at length in multiple HHH articles (see links below).  And, it’s easily the most anticipated Screenwriting app ever to come to a mobile device.  Screenwriters around the world have been waiting for Final Draft to come to the iPad. The good news: Final Draft has finally set a release date for their mobile app (Feb 16th).  The bad news: This is not the application we were expecting.

Avid Studio for iPad. This sh*t just got real, yo!

UPDATE (8/30/12): Avid Studio has been sold to Corel Inc., and is now called Pinnacle Studio.  Same app – New ownership. “Editing on an iPad? Yeah, right. iMovie? Pffft. Whatever. Let me know when Avid makes an iPad app!  Because that’s when I’ll start take mobile editing seriously.” Ok, cynical editor guy… Avid just released an editing app! Avid Studio ($4.99) has just hit the App Store, and it’s SWEET. But, it also suffers from a few shortcomings.  Just by looking at the app’s primary editing screen, you know Avid took their time in crafting an easy to understand, powerful,

PROfile: Eric Haase turns two iPads into the ultimate interview accessory.

I’ve seen iPads used for storyboarding, iPads used as slates, but I’ve never seen this before… and it’s awesome! Eric Haase, an extremely talented Cinematographer, needed to capture some intimate interviews for a recent fund-raising project called Imagine 300. Since the project had no budget, he had to think outside of the box. I spoke with Eric to learn how he managed to turn a pair of iPads into a makeshift Interrotron! What’s an Interrotron, you ask? Read on, and prepare to want a second iPad. This is the fund-raising video we’ll be talking about: HHH: Start off by telling

How I used my iPhone & iPad on a Disney short (a.k.a. Blatant Self Promotion)

I wanted to share some fun news! A short film I directed for Walt Disney Pictures just hit store shelves! It’s called Last Chance Lloyd, and stars Nicholas Braun and Raini Rodriguez. If you’ve seen Disney’s Prom (in theaters last April), then you’ve already witnessed Lloyd desperately trying to find a date for the big night. My short goes deeper into Lloyd’s story, exposes a few more failed attempts, and explains why he winds up going with… we’ll, I’m not going to spoil it. If you’d like to check it out, it’s the featured bonus on Disney’s new PROM BluRay.

8mm goes HD! Wait, is that right?

Yup, it’s right… and it’s kick-ass! Nexvio has just released 8mm HD for the iPad ($2.99).  These are the same guys that brought us ReelDirector, the first video editing app ever released for iOS. 8mm for iPhone ($1.99) has long been one of my favorite camera apps. It effortlessly transforms live video into vintage 8mm movies complete with jitter, discoloration, icky edges, and framing nightmares. AWESOME! The new iPad HD version looks great (although, I’m surprised they didn’t use the extra space to make the buttons bigger). It will let you shoot live video (iPad 2 only), and post-process existing video

From the Director’s Chair: Who You Gonna Call?

I recently directed a pilot presentation for a comedy series titled Polterguys. It’s sort of a Ghost Hunters meets Reno 911 kinda thing. I was luck enough to work with a group of terrific comedic actors. It’s not often you get to have that much fun on set. I’m really hoping the show gets picked up. It would be a blast to direct on a regular basis! Any network heads out there? Wanna buy a show? If you’d like to watch the three minute presentation, you can view it on my directing web site (www.TazGoldstein.com). It was a VERY short

Welcome to the revolu–hang on. I have a call.

Did it happen while you were sitting on a film set? Perhaps it was in the editing bay? Or maybe when you were finally sick of playing iFart Mobile. You had a sudden realization that the foul-sounding-distraction in your hand might possibly serve a greater purpose.   It can help you make your movie! For me, that moment came when I purchased a storyboarding app named Hitchcock. I won’t go into details about the app (you’ll get plenty of that in future postings), but I will say that it forced me to see my iPhone in a different way. At
