A place for all the other stuff

Hi all!

As founder of Hand Held Hollywood, I've tried to keep the site chock full of useful news, reviews, and tutorials. However, since our launch late last year, there have been times I've wanted to post other stuff...the sort of stuff that doesn't easily fit into a Latest News category.

For instance, I'd love to share my thoughts on HHH's future, and hopefully get some constructive feedback. I want to describe the projects I'm directing, and how I use my tech on set.  I've wanted to share some emails I've received from HHH readers.  And I've wanted to bitch... a lot... like how AT&T couldn't keep a call connected with vice grips and crazy glue.

For these reasons, and several others, I've added the Director's Chair.  A new area for all the other stuff.  You can find it under the News menu item, or just click here.

I'd love to hear from you, so please feel free to comment.  And thanks for being an HHH reader!

Next Gen iPhone Shoots & Edits HD Video

Mobile media moguls just got an early Christmas present.  Apple has announced the new iPhone 4 with a sweet looking, built-in HD Video camera.  It will capture 30p video 1280 x 720 (not 1920 x 1080).  Disappointed it can't record 1080?  I'm not… at least not yet.  I've got several consumer video cameras, all claiming to shoot 1080p… which the do… and they also suck great big bags of ass (I'm looking at you, Kodak Zi8).  So, what good is 1080 if the quality is terrible? I'm hopeful that Apple stuck to 720 because they know they can do it well.  Then again, if their HD video looks lousy, I'll be doubly bummed.

HHH at the Boston Apple Store this Friday!

As if you needed another reason to lurk around an Apple Store...

Hand Held Hollywood has been asked to give a great big presentation at the Biggest Apple Store in the country! It's happening this Friday night (June 4th), from 6 to 8pm, at the Boylston Street Apple Store in Boston. I'll be there, discussing all the latest iPhone and iPad apps & accessories for media makers. If you're in the area, come join us for what is sure to be a fun night!

The event is being hosted by the Boston Final Cut Pro Users Group.  You can get all the details on Apple's site...and yeah, I'm pretty stoked to be listed on Apple's site.

On a side note, I graduated from Emerson College in Boston, and I'm hoping to see at least a few Emerson students in the audience. You know who you are!
